This second honeymoon really is a trip of a lifetime. Having travelled Peru and Bolivia for two months prior to the MBA we concentrated this trip on Argentina, Brazil and Chile. I cant believe we have already reached the mid point of the trip, but we still have alot of look forward to. We will be going on Sunday to Thailand, then Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, China (where my sister will be looking after us), Mongolia and then perhaps on the highest train in the world to Tibet. We will then settle down in London on 8th October, once our tenants leave the flat. Brian we will hopefully see you in Bankok, if not definately in China.

We are currently staying with Meg and Jhony. Its so weird, we didn't see them in a couple of years, and now we saw them in Barcelona in May when they came for the formula one, and now again!!!


Nos super copains Meg et Jonhy nous ont laisse leur appart alors qu ils n etaient pas la... Ils sont rentre hier soir, donc on a toute la semaine avec qu eux, c cool... Voila la vue de leur balcon, incroyable!

We went to a wildlife park, and saw a vast array of wildlife. I felt sorry for the Joey in the Kangaroo's pouch!




Pour sauver la journee on est alle voir les animaux australiens dans un parc national ou ils se baladent librement. C etait vraiment genial!! On a nourrit les kangourous (remarquez le bebe dans la poche, sur la photo avec moi) et biensur le koala dans l arbre a mes cotes...

Un autre moyen de transport qui faisait flipper!!! La vue est censee etre incroyablesur la montagne, on a biensur rien vu du tout a cause du brouillard. Mais c etait sympa quand meme...

We went to see the Blue Mountains with Nils and Nina, but unfortunately visibility wasn't that good. We took a train down to the valley with the steepest incline in the world, 52 degrees.


On est partit voir la montagne bleu pas tres loin de Sydney, mais on pas eu de chance. Le temps ete merdique et on a rien pu voir, un broullard de dingue!!! On a quand meme pris le train qui descend sur une pente a 52 degrees. Le seul train au monde de ce genre!

On arriving in Sydney we met up with some good friends from IESE Nils and Nina, and spent three days with them. They have just left for Brisbane, and Meg and Jhonny landed just after we said goodbye to them.


Apres la Nouvelle Zelande, nous voila en Australie a Sydney. En arrivant nous avons retrouve des potes de Barcelone qui voyagent aussi. Nous voila en face de l Opera house de nuit avec Nils et Nina.

We left Santiago and made our way to New Zealand, and arrived in Auckland this morning. We actually started our jouney over 25 hours ago now, and landed here at 3.45am, had to wait for the first airport bus at 6am and are now waiting for checkin at 11am (to avoid paying an extra night). We are here only for three nights as its pretty expensive. We will then be heading onto Sydney where we will be with Meg and Jhony, and will also meet up with Nils and Nina. I cant wait because today I can have a nice, big curry with a mango lassi!!!!

Aprés la Santiago, on est parti vers la Nouvelle Zélande d'ou on poste les blod en ce moment. Apres 14 heurs d avions, et le fait d avoir perdu le 17 juillet au decalage horraire, on est arrivé a 3h 45 du mat a aukland. On a attendu le bus de 6 heurs, et la on attend notre chambre qui sera libre à 11 heures. On est crevé et un peu triste d avoit termine l amerique latine... Une bonne douche et on sera de nouveau pret pour de nouvelles aventures...

On our last full day in Santiago Jorge and Triny (and Martin) took us to their friends place in the countryside outside Santiago. It was a goodbye barbecue for a friends leaving to start an MBA in the states. Extremely nice, and reminded us alot of the French countryside. We got back to Santiago that night and had Sushi on recommendation from Andy, which was nice, and then went to La casa en el aire, where people improvised while singing, and also played live Chilean music. A perfect day and nice way to say goodbye to Santiago.

Pour notre derniere journée à Santiago, Jorge et Trinny (et leur petit Martin) nous ont invité à passer l'aprés midi dans une maison de campagne à quelques heures de la ville, pour un bon barbeuq avec leur amis. C'etait genial, la maison rurale avec vue sur la cordillere des Andes!!! Quelle chance on a d avoir des amis comme ca!!

We went to a really nice film cafe with Jorge (an IESE classmate from Santiago) and his wife. We hung out alot with them and they really looked after us well. It really does change the whole experience when you have friends from a place you are visiting, and Santiago is probably in our top two places of the trip so far, despite some negative feedback from friends prior to the trip.

Here you can see el Cero, which was the first fort of Santiago. We climbed it and saw the nice views (photo). We also went to the Museo de Bella Arte.

Nous devant el cero de Santa Lucia, la premiere forteresse construite par les Espagnols. L autre photo c le museo de bellas artes... C super culturel comme ville et vachement artistique aussi. C pas la ville la plus belle qu on ait visité mais on l adore!!

We then went to the Plaza de Armas, where I saw probably the coolest thing of the whole trip!! CHESS!! Everywhere. People taking it really really seriously, playing in their lunch, or in breaks. It was sensational! You also had a comedian making skits of people and current topics (photo with Bea)

La plaza de Armas est fantastique. Dan a faillit tomber dans les pommes quand il a vu toutes ces tables pour jouer aux echecs!!! Il y avait plein de gens qui jouait, pariait.... l autre photo c moi avec la foule... Sur la meme place il y a des poetes qui improvisait des vers sur la politiques, les gens... Super!!!

The first thing we saw were the infamous yellow buses. Here at the back you can also see the new replacement buses, as the older yellow ones are being replaced

La premiere chose à voir à Santiago c'est les bus jaunes... Il n y a pas d'arret de bus, donc tu les arrete comme des taxi et tu saute quand tu veux... Et le plus interressant c que les chauffeurs sont payé en function du nombre de passagers qu ils ont prit dans la journée, donc ils vont à fond de ballon, et ne s arretent pas au feu rouge!!!

After we finished Iguazu we went to Buenas Aires just for a couple of hours then got a plane to Santiago. We could not believe that our reservation existed but not our ticket, so after 2 hours of arguing we had to pay for the plane ticket again!!! We contacted STA and they have appologised and are crediting us back with the money which was a relief. The entire journey took us just over 14 hours! We loved this street junction and took a photo

Aprés Iguazu, on est parti en dirrection de Santiago, via Buenos aires. Mais biensur il y a toujours des problemes, du coup on a mit 14 heures pour arriver à Santiago!! Mais ca vallait la peine. Tout le monde noud avez dit que c'etait pas terrible comme ville. Eh bien nous on a adoré, je pourrait vivre à Santiago 1 an avec grand plaisir!!

Then we went down a waterfall, which was extremely slippy. Just for fun they put us through the waterfall and we got completely soaked!!!!!

Nous voila maintenant faisant du rappel sur une petite chutte d'eau, on a bien evidemment fini trampé!!! mais ca vallait le coup...

First we went between trees for around 20 minutes. It was extremely cool, but hurt the privates! This photo shows the lowest and last of the trees, and is a photo of a friend.

Voila ce que nous avons fait... La c' était meme pas l arbre le plus haut.... Le mec sur la photo c'est un mec avec qui on a passé la journée... Comme vous pouvez le deviner c'est moins agréable pour les mecs que pour les nanas...

We put on all of the necessary equipment, and then the fun started.

Nous voila pret pour faire 800 metres dans les airs, d arbres en arbres, c'était vraiment fun...

We then spent a day doing adventure sports. We went into the jungle where in army transportation.

Aprés la journée tranquille passée aux chuttes d'Iguazu, il était tempd de bouger un peu. Direction la jungle pour une matinée aventure...

Aprés avoir mangé j'ai été harcelé par plein de bestioles qui en voulaient aprés ma glace!!! Il a l air gentil et mignon comme ca mais ils sont assez agréssifs!!!

Me voilà en route vers les aventures d'Iguazu. Plein de chemins et de ponts à traverser pour arriver aux chutes d'eau. En chemin on a vue plein de bestioles, des papillons énormes... Mais heureusement pour nous on a pas croisé de pumas (qui partagent la foret avec plain d autres animaux dangereux...)

Our next stop was Iguazu. We watched the final of the worldcup and had problems with a old fat racist Italian, but it was fun in the end. We got to the Brazilian side, and stayed there one night. Then we went to the Argentinian side to go to the national park.

We passed one of the largest Favelas in Rio!

Voila la plus grande Favela de Rio. C'est dans ces bidonvilles que vivent les plus pauvres, c'est assez impréssionant à voir...

Luis took us to Prahina outside Rio where he used to surf. It was a really cool day, and on one side you had the national park, and on the other beaches with incredible waves!

Nous voila toujours à Rio. Notre ami Luis nous a fait visiter ces plages préférées... C'était magnifique.

We did alot of site seeing, here you have the ferry terminal in yellow and the Palacio Tiradentes. We wont bore you with the rest of the photos! We are leaving for Iguazu on Sunday, and arrive an hour and a half before the kick off of the world cup final, so we really hope that there are no delays!!!! We will be there for two nights, and then go to Buenas Aires to catch our flight to Santiago, where we will be meeting up with Jorge. Rio was a really nice experience, and we will definately be back one day!

Luis, an iese classmate from Rio, took us out for dinner a really nice Arab place playing live Samba. We are meeting him up tonight as well, the last time we ll see him before he starts his new life in London with his expecting wife.

We went to the Maracana stadium, and in the hall of fame saw all the famous inprints of some of the worlds greats. Nos petits pieds sur les empreintes de ceux de la legende du foot: Pelé.

No words needed! Vue de Rio. Cette ville a tout, la montagne, la mer, les bons restos, les magasins, le soleil...

Unfortunately the guy didnt press the button properly on our camera, and we couldnt check it as the display is broken. But as you can see it really is stunning. We then ascended it. Voila le Pao De Azucar vue de loin. C une montagne en plein milieu de Rio, qui a la forme d un pain au sucre (c ce que disent les Bresilliens)... Impressionant!! Une ville vraiment magnifique.

C vraiment une super ville, mais comme le reste du Brésil, c assez dangereux. ex: On est allé au cinoche Dimanche, à 19h30 pour voir un film de minettes avec Jennifer Aniston... dans un bon quartier. Et en plein millieu du film 2 mecs commencent à se battre dans la salle, et un d´eux a sorti un flingue... Du coup 2000 personnes se sont mis à courrir dans tous les sens dans l noir... Moi j ai choppé Dany et je l ai tiré de toutes mes forces... Le mec n a pas tiré, mais on a bien eu peur!!! On est quand meme restés voir la fin du film!!!
